Well, yesterday I had lots of fun hiding caches and dropping off travel bugs. I took Luke along too. We stopped at one to drop of a TB, and for some reason Luke decided he didn't want to get out of the car. As I was coaxing him out, the side-panel of the driver-side door fell off into the parking lot. So I was holding the door panel on with one hand and coaxing Luke out with the other. I finally got him out and quickly slammed the door to keep the panel on. I dropped off the travel bug, but when I got back to the car I discovered that in all of the confusion I had locked my keys in the car. GRRRR!
Well, fortunately, I have a spare key hidden on the car in a magnetic key-container, and more fortunately still, it was still there. We went on to hide a number of more caches. Near the end, I hid a plastic waterbottle in the woods. I had intended to hide a travel bug in it, but on the way back to the car I reached in my pocket and there was the travel bug, still there. So I went back to the cache, uncovered it and threw in the travel bug, with many harsh words.
Later that evening as I was emptying my pockets and getting ready for bed, what do I find? The stupid travel bug that was supposed to be in the plastic water bottle. OK, so now I'm really myistified? How did this thing get back in my pocket? Then, looking at the stuff on my dresser I thought, what's missing here? ARGHHH! My motorcycle-key is gone!
I got back dressed, grabbed my GPS and a flashlight and headed out to the cache site. But when I got there, I looked at the GPS and the waypoint for the cache wasn't there?????????
OH NO! I brought the wrong GPS. The one with the cache waypoint is back at the house. I decided it was time to end this comedy of errors and went home and went to bed.
I got up at seven this morning, and went out to the cache site with Luke, and the CORRECT GPS. When I got to the cache, what did I find in it? A TRAVEL BUG! Not the right travel bug, but a travel bug, NOT my motorcycle key. I took out the travel bug and put in the right one. Now the problem is, of the other five travel bugs I placed yesterday, which one was actually my motorcycle key? I left the list of which cache went with which bug, so I had no choice but back track. On the fourth try I found the key and replaced it with the travel bug.
Giving away my motorcycle as a cache trade item was just too much!
Of course, you'll never guess which cache it was where I found the key. That's right. The one where I locked my keys in the car! _________________ -- Dad |
